Blue Exorcist manga receives new anime series

Five years after the debut TV anime series, Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is to announce a new anime series of Kazue Kato’s ongoing supernatural-action manga Blue Exorcist.

First released in 2009, the manga follows Rin Okumura and his twin brother Yukio, the sons of Satan raised by the famous exorcist Father Fujimoto. After a series of events, Rin decides to join the True Cross Academy in order to become an exorcist to defeat demons which relies on him channeling a dark power within him which is brought to the front when drawing his father’s sword.

Originally produced by A-1 Pictures, the 2011 anime (trailer below) spanned 25 episodes not including an OVA and the manga has proved popular with fans and critics alike.

The manga is released digitally in English by Viz Media in conjunction with its Japanese release.
