The premiere date and plot information of the new anime adaptation of the popular Blue Exorcist manga have been revealed, published in Shueisha’s Jump SQ magazine this week. This was followed by a teaser trailer and key visual. Titled Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Impure King Arc, it adapts the Kyoto Impure King Arc which kicked off in the fifth volume of the original manga series.
The fifth volume is described as follows by Viz Media:
“In the late Edo Period, a demon known as the Impure King killed thousands of people. After defeating the demon, the Knights of the True Cross kept its left eye safely sealed away on Academy grounds – but now someone has stolen it! Hearing the thief has taken a child hostage, Yukio and Rin go to help. The investigation and pursuit will lead Rin and his friends to Kyoto and involve them even deeper in a sinister plot! But will his friends’ knowledge that Rin is the son of Satan drive a wedge between them”.
Kazue Kato’s manga was first published in Jump SQ magazine in 2009 inspiring an anime adaptation in 2011 and later a film in 2012. The anime will be directed by Koichi Hatsume (Deadman Wonderland, Gangsta.) at A-1 Pictures (who produced the first adaptation) with Toshiya Ono (The Perfect Insider, Tsuritama) handling the series composition. Hiroyuki Sawano will compose the score alongside Kohata Yamamoto.
