The Live-Action Netflix adaptation of the hit manga and anime Death Note will see Willem Dafoe voice Ryuk, the Shinigami (Death God) in charge of the death note first found by Light Yagami, according to a report on Mashable.

Entertainment news source Variety have described Wolff’s character as “a student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone simply by writing the victim’s name”, and go on to state that he competes with a “reclusive police officer.”
The film is based on the 2003-2006 supernatural suspense manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, which spawned one of the most popular and far reaching anime series of the same name, not to mention a slew of numerous other media productions. It follows the teenager Light Yagami who finds a notebook which allows its user to put people to death by writing their names. With it, he takes aim against the criminals of the world declaring himself judge, jury and executioner which sparks of game of cat and mouse with a genius detective.
With production starting this summer Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next) is set to direct the film with Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) having penned a recent draft of the script. The film is set to premiere in 2017.
