Guardians of the Galaxy and Gravity Falls writers to pen Pokémon Live-Action film

pokemon_logoSet to begin production in 2017, Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) are in talks with Legendary Entertainment to write its planned live-action adaptation of Pokémon.

Alex Hirsch created Disney’s animated series Gravity Falls and Nicole Perlman co-wrote the script for Guardians of the Galaxy and is co-writing the script for the Captain Marvel film.

The live-action film is set to feature the Detective Pikachu character from the Nintendo 3DS game released in February this year and will be distributed by Universal Pictures outside Japan, with TOHO handling distribution of the film in Japan.

First introduced in Japan 20 years ago in 1996, the cute yet powerful pocket monsters have seen a resurgence in popularity following the recent release of the Pokémon Go app which has given Nintendo a much needed boost.
