The BFI Anime Weekend 2018

Two years since its last stint, the BFI Anime Weekend 2018 will open its doors next weekend. Running from the 18-20 May at the BFI Southbank in London, the event promises to showcase the best of recent anime to a UK audience. This year’s event also coincides with the BFI’s Animation 2018 a year-long season celebrating animation. For the month of May Animation 2018 focuses on anime, meaning more gems to scope out including classics from Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli and the legendary Akira which celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The films to feature in this years biennial Anime Weekend event includes amongst others, the hugely popular and one of the most successful Japanese films of all time Your Name, as well as the beautiful moving story In This Corner of the World. 

The full list of films to feature for the BFI Anime Weekend are:

  • Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion I – Inititation
  • Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution Movie 1
  • Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card
  • Your Name
  • Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
  • Lu Over the Wall
  • In this Corner of the World

As well as the above, the Animation 2018 event will feature a 30th Anniversary screening of Akira on Monday 14th May. Other films to catch at the event this month include Paprika, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
